Learning and development professionals are strongly influenced by their clients, technological advancements, and market trends. This is demonstrated by the recent trend toward microlearning, a shorter, more digestible form of learning content. We must, in essence, give the people what they want and need as today’s workforce becomes more mobile and attending in-person training events become less practical. We must be able to constantly prepare our mobile workforce and provide them with the appropriate training as soon as they do.
The ideal response to this new learning environment is microlearning. It can address the issue of consistently delivering short just-in-time training modules, frequently in mobile-ready environments. These shorter learning modules can be produced in a small fraction of the time required to produce longer, more formal training courses.
